Our Manor 13-17 March 2023

Welcome to this week's newsletter

Many of you will know that we are approaching the anniversary of the death of Callum Woodcroft. As a school we have been working with We Mind and Kelly Matters (a suicide prevention charity) on a plan to mark the day. WMKM have liaised with Callum's family who have agreed that we can hold a mufti day on Thursday 30 March to raise money for the charity.

On the day we would like everyone to come to school dressed in Callum's favourite colours, blue and yellow. The suggested donation is £1.

During the day there will be an appropriate assembly for every year group and some time to share memories of Callum. We Mind and Kelly Matters will help us by signposting routes to support and by sharing messages of hope.

On Friday 31 March our day will run as normal, but we will be encouraging all students and staff to wear a suicide prevention ribbon that will be provided by We Mind and Kelly Matters.

There will be counsellors in school on both days to support our community.

I would appreciate it if you could complete this form so that we can ensure that every student gets the support that they need during the next few challenging weeks and beyond. A similar form will be shared with students next week.

Thank you for your continued support.

Claire Radd, Assistant Head of School (DSL).

Year 11 prom reminder

A reminder that time is running out for students to secure their place at our Year 11 prom. Payments must be made via WisePay and reply slips must be returned by Friday 31 March. Reply slips are important as we will soon be investigating menu choices and need to ensure we can cater for specific dietary requirements.

Post-16 destinations

Our careers advisor Simon Hill has been working with tutors this week to gather updates from Year 11 students on their post-16 intentions and destinations, as well as targeting students for meetings. Please contact Miss Smedley on 01933 623921 or lsmedley@manor.school if you feel your child needs additional support with this.

Unwanted uniform

In conjunction with Raunds Food Bank we are asking for donations of unwanted uniform that can be reused by other students.

Donations can be dropped to main reception at Manor School or directly to Raunds Food Bank (19 High St, Raunds, NN9 6HS).

Many thanks in advance for your kindness.

Lost property

We will be clearing lost property after the Easter break. If your child is missing any items, please ask them to check in lost property before Friday 31 March.

Any unclaimed uniform will be sent to Raunds Food Bank for distribution.

Word of the Week

Each week, the English department focuses on encouraging students to use one ambitious word – it is displayed in classrooms and discussed during teaching. It would be great if adults at home could try to encourage the use of this word too. You could try to fit into a conversation or even question your young person on the meaning. It will be fantastic for the students to see us all working together to help improve their language. Thank you for your support.

The Word of the Week for 13-17 March is myriad.

Competitions Week

During the penultimate week of every whole term, we hold our house competitions where students are given the opportunity to earn enrichment points and potentially REACH points, which then go towards house totals. This is happening next week and we would love for every student in the school to participate!

KS3 PE and science competitions will take place during lessons, with all the other subject competitions being optional and open for students to participate in at their leisure. However, the more competitions entered, the more points gained for both the student and their house, so we encourage students to take part in as many competitions as they can.

Students who win any of the subject competitions will earn 25 REACH points, with 15 points being awarded to second place and 5 points for third. If students are looking to earn enough points to attend this year's REACHfest and earn their School Colours, this could be a great opportunity to bump their points up!

See the posters below for the subject competitions taking place in each Key Stage.

Meet the SEND team

The North Northamptonshire Council SEND team would like to meet with parents and carers to find out how they can provide guidance and help in supporting you and your child within your local area. This could be chatting to an educational psychologist or advisory teacher SEND specialist. You may also want to hear from our specialist team about a range of topics, or just pop in for a coffee and meet with other families.

There is parking available nearby at the venue. Unfortunately, they cannot offer creche facilities, and ask that children do not accompany you please, as this is a meeting for discussions between parents & carers and SEND professionals.

To register for the event, for more information, or be added to their mailing list, please contact pamela.hobart@northnorthants.gov.uk
