Our Manor 15-19 May 2023

Welcome to this week's newsletter

This week has been a great start to the exam season. We have been delighted with the approach taken by the students and also with the manner in which the rest of the school has conducted themselves.

We have had a positive week in terms of recruitment for next academic year. We have appointed to the recently advertised drama and psychology posts and are looking forward to welcoming candidates to interview for posts in other subject areas next week.

We hope to see as many of you as possible at the Raunds Mayor’s Show this weekend. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us. We have students from schools across the Trust performing from approximately midday.

Enjoy the weekend!

Exam season timings

West End performance

A group of Manor School students performed two amazing dances with their dance school Michelle Randles School of Dancing at His Majesty's Theatre, London on Sunday 14 May for a company called Take a Bow. The students rehearsed for many months for this performance, which featured dancers from around the country. Their performance was outstanding and they should be very proud of their achievement.

Athletics success

Congratulations to Lucie C (Year 7) and Harriet C (Year 12) for their successes at the Northamptonshire County Athletics Championships which took place on 13 and 14 May. Lucie received a gold medal in the female under-13s javelin, a silver medal in the female under-13s shot put, and a silver medal in the female under-13s long jump. Harriet meanwhile received a silver medal in the female under-20s 200m and came fourth in the 100m.

If you would like to share news of your child's achievements outside of school, please send us an email.

Cricket festival

On Monday 15 May, we hosted a cricket festival for Year 1 and 2 students across the district, all of whom enjoyed their afternoon applying the skills of batting, bowling, and fielding.

Thank you and well done to our sports leaders who were all a credit to themselves:

  • Year 7: Erin W, Jack S
  • Year 8: Joseph S, Phoebe B, Lara C
  • Year 9: Madeleine H, Hollie M-W
  • Year 10: Olly H, Luke C, Robbie K

Mini London Marathon

As a school, we entered the Mini London Marathon in Schools challenge in their bid to try and break a Guinness World Record with the total number of pledges for an exercise campaign in a month.

We did our bit by getting all of Key Stage 3 to take part within their PE lessons by either running, jogging or walking the one mile distance.

We will find out in due course if we have managed to break the record and whether or not as a school we will be part of a Guinness World Record.

Coping with exam stress

The exam season can often be a highly stressful period of time. In recognition of Mental Health Awareness Week (15-21 May), here are some resources that may be helpful for students:

Word of the Week

Each week, the English department focuses on encouraging students to use one ambitious word – it is displayed in classrooms and discussed during teaching. It would be great if adults at home could try to encourage the use of this word too. You could try to fit into a conversation or even question your young person on the meaning. It will be fantastic for the students to see us all working together to help improve their language. Thank you for your support.

The Word of the Week for 15-19 May is putrid.

Bus consultation

North Northamptonshire Council are conducting a consultation regarding 'Home to School' transport. They have asked us to share details with parents/carers who are most likely to be impacted by any changes resulting from this consultation (in our instance, this refers to users of the Thrapston and Ringstead routes).

You can access the consultation via this link. Please note that the consultation period will conclude on Monday 12 June.

Year 7 Consultation Evening

Our Year 7 Parent/Carer Consultation Evening will take place on Thursday 25 May as a face-to-face event in school. Bookings for meetings with teaching staff must be made using the Arbor app or online portal by following the link to the Consultation Evening on the dashboard. You will be able to start making the appointments at 8:00am on Monday 15 May and the system will close to new appointments at 12.pm on Wednesday 24 May.

If you have not already done so, the simplest way to register is to sign into the parent portal - please visit https://login.arbor.sc/ and select 'Forgotten password'. You will then be sent an email containing further instructions. Once you have registered, you can download the app from Google Play or the App Store and log in with your details.
