Our Manor 5-9 June 2023

Welcome to this week's newsletter

As the summer term starts, so does the increasingly warmer weather (we hope!) so I'd like to start by reminding the community about our uniform expectations. Students should always bring their blazer to school. If they are choosing to wear a jumper as well, it must be a v-neck jumper which has the school logo on or is plain navy (black in line with the legacy uniform is also acceptable). Students should not replace their blazer with the jumper. On warmer days, tutors will communicate with students when it has been decided that the day is a 'non-blazer day'. On these days, students can choose to remove their blazer around the school at all times but they must still have it in school with them.

The examination series for Year 11 and 13 students continues to move ahead and we have been really pleased with how they have approached the series. Most examinations are complete by the end of next week and so the timings of the school day will return to normal from Monday 19 June.

Finally, Wednesday 21 June marks national 'Thank a Teacher' day. We invite anyone who would like to recognise the contributions, efforts and hard work of any member of Manor staff using this form. We will then collate these and pass onto staff on Wednesday 21 June.

Have a lovely weekend.

Celebrating student work

Mrs Tracy would like to give a big well done to Harvey S in Year 9 who submitted an excellent travel article exploring Dubai during last month's industrial action. Mrs Tracy commented that the article "shows not only a sophisticated and engaging writing style but a self-starting attitude and drive. Keep up the good work Harvey!"

Word of the Week

Each week, the English department focuses on encouraging students to use one ambitious word – it is displayed in classrooms and discussed during teaching. It would be great if adults at home could try to encourage the use of this word too. You could try to fit into a conversation or even question your young person on the meaning. It will be fantastic for the students to see us all working together to help improve their language. Thank you for your support.

The Word of the Week for 5-9 June is whimsical.

Student career event

Prospects (in partnership with SEMLEP and CEC Careers Hub) are hosting a "What Next?" event for young people leaving school this year (Year 11-13), who may not have secure plans for September. The aim is to raise awareness of opportunities in Northamptonshire, including at college, with training providers, employers and apprenticeships. The event will be held in Kettering on Thursday 13 July and Northampton on Saturday 15 July.

30 Days Wild

30 Days Wild is The Wildlife Trusts' annual nature challenge where they ask the nation to do one 'wild' thing a day every day throughout June. We are encouraging students to take part by suggesting an activity for every school day in June, with students able to receive REACH points for participating by informing their tutor.

The suggested activities for the second week of June can be found below.
