Our Manor 3-7 July 2023

Welcome to this week's newsletter

This week has been incredibly busy - although at times disjointed - with different students and staff out for different events. We've had 80 students out exploring Paris for the week, saw our incredible musicians perform on Tuesday night, inducted our Year 11 students into our Sixth Form, spent a wonderful three days welcoming our incoming Year 7 students, and celebrated the end of examinations with the Sixth Form Ball last Friday and the Year 11 Prom last night. This is in addition to the normal lessons that have taken place and the final trial examinations for Year 10 and 12 students in art.

Whilst many students have also experienced two days of remote learning, it has been great to see so much going on and our students so actively engaging in the opportunities that they are provided.

As we begin to count down towards the end of the academic year we are remaining focused on learning in this final fortnight. At the same time we are beginning to look ahead to next year and are finalising plans for our staff training days and the first days in September. To support this, we are working on plans for our 'Manor Student Induction 2023'. This will be a comprehensive package of activities and experiences for our students to ensure that they are ready for success in the first days of September. We are currently planning for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 to return to school on Wednesday 6 September, and Years 11, 12 and 13 to return on Thursday 7 September. We will be writing to parents/carers shortly to confirm these arrangements and share important reminders about uniform and school routines.

Have a lovely weekend.

County Schools Challenge

Following their success in the semi-finals last month, a group of six Year 9 students participated in the Northamptonshire County Schools Challenge grand final on Monday 3 July. Fellow Year 9 student Dominic R-M was in attendance and has written the following review of the event.

Word of the Week

Each week, the English department focuses on encouraging students to use one ambitious word – it is displayed in classrooms and discussed during teaching. It would be great if adults at home could try to encourage the use of this word too. You could try to fit into a conversation or even question your young person on the meaning. It will be fantastic for the students to see us all working together to help improve their language. Thank you for your support.

The Word of the Week for 3-7 July is sepia.

An Evening of Dance

You are invited to come and be entertained at 'An Evening of Dance' on Monday 17 July, featuring dancers from both KS3 and KS4. There will be a variety of styles being shown and the students would love to see as many people there as possible. Please see the following poster for further details and to book free tickets.

Competitions Week

The final Competitions Week for this academic year is taking place next week, with competitions across all subject areas.

Entries to the house competitions need to be submitted by Thursday 13 July, with students receiving an enrichment point for each entry that will go towards the house totals. To make an entry, students will need to take their work to main reception and put this into the “entries” box, making sure the work is clearly named and it is clear which subject the entry is for.

Students from the winning house will get to attend REACH Fest on Friday 14 July. Every student will also be entered into a draw with each entry they make to determine who will get to be an audience member for the school talent show taking place during period 5 on Friday 14 July. The draw for this will take place on Thursday afternoon.
