Our Manor 28 September - 2 October 2020

Work. World. Wellness. lessons

Our Work. World. Wellness. (WWW) curriculum is an integral part of the education experience of Manor School students. A range of discrete lessons on a Wednesday afternoon helps to provide the visible realisation of our ‘why’.

Through our discrete lessons we ensure we cover all statutory requirements of Relationship Sex Education, PSHE and careers education. We also cross-reference with the Gatsby criteria to enable quality assurance and progress measurements. Further coherence is provided by the explicit links to big questions and British Values, and is supplemented by three Curriculum Days per year. During these days, students are fully immersed in each strand of Work. World. Wellness. Our first curriculum day of this academic year will be held on Tuesday 20 October, and we will be sharing the plans with you over the next few weeks.

Our WWW lessons are linked to the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals at every Key Stage, thus incorporating key issues for our young people now and in their future.

All teachers are involved with the delivery of WWW, and in doing so are able to further establish the links to their own subject areas.

Please find below the students’ learning journey from Year 7 to 13. Students in Year 7 are currently focusing on ‘Am I making the right lifestyle choices?’. In Year 8 students are looking at ‘What does the ‘world of work’ look like?’, whilst in Year 9 they are covering ‘Why do they do it?’. Our Year 10 students are focusing on ‘Are my actions my responsibility?’, and Year 11 are looking at ‘What are my next steps?’. Finally we have Year 12/13 who are covering ‘How can I manage my finances?‘ and ‘What are my next steps looking at employment/UCAS/apprenticeship routes?’

Year 11 after-school sessions

This week saw the start of our weekly after-school revision sessions for Year 11 students. These sessions take place in the Year 11 pod from 3:15pm until 4:15pm. We would encourage attendance at these sessions as much as possible.

For bus users, we are able to use some of our catchup funding to support students who need transport in order to access these sessions. To make use of the minibus, students must sign up via the signup sheet on the door outside of Mrs Bannard’s office (next to room 14) by the beginning of lunchtime on the day before the session. There are a maximum of 12 spaces available on this service and it is a first come, first serve provision. The minibus will leave Manor School from the Park Street car park at 4:25pm. Students must wear a face covering on the minibus at all times.

Year 11 Pledges Evening

Year 11 parents/carers are invited to our annual Year 11 Pledges Evening on Wednesday 7 October at 6:30pm. This event follows the Year 11 Pledges Assembly and is designed to provide Year 11 parents/carers and students with essential information as they prepare for their trial and final examinations. You will hear presentations about our Nothing by Accident programme, strategies for revision and advice from previous Year 11 students.

This year’s event will be run virtually and parents/carers will be sent a link to watch the presentation on Tuesday 6 October. You will need a computer or device that can access the internet and has speakers or headphones in order to watch the live event. We will provide an opportunity for some frequently asked questions at this event, but would encourage you to submit questions before this to us before the event by completing this form:
