Our Manor 31 January - 4 February 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

As we approach the final week before the half term break, it is important to reflect on our REACH values which are demonstrated every day within our school community. Our students have collectively been awarded over 40,000 REACH points so far this academic year, which is a fantastic achievement. We hope to see many more points awarded for demonstrating these values over the remainder of the year.

This week students have represented the school in a variety of sports events, participated in a range of extra-curricular activities, and taken advantage of the extended provision opportunities that we offer to our young people. We have also had the Onatti Theatre Company in for students in Year 8 who study German. Various other guest speakers are planned in the coming weeks, both face-to-face and virtually, to support our motto of ‘Success for All’.

Next week we will receive further guidance on any adaptations to the content for the summer examinations for Years 11 and 13. Whilst we await, we continue to encourage students to use the various resources we are providing to help with their preparation as we approach the final few months of study.

As mentioned later in this newsletter, we ask you to please complete the behaviour feedback form for your views as we move to the next stages of our school improvement and development.

Finally, lateral flow test kits will be distributed at the end of Friday 11 February at the main gates.

We wish you all a fantastic weekend.

Glenn Martin and Lee Towers, Co-Principals

Behaviour consultation

Mr Towers and Mr Martin wrote in earlier newsletters about the work currently taking place to refine our praise, rewards and behaviour systems. Among other areas, we are considering a key change to our behaviour system relating to the timing of detentions. We would appreciate you completing the short form below to share your perspectives on the proposal, and gather your views about the regularity of which you would like to receive information about the behaviour and rewards data available.

As always, we thank parents and carers for their feedback and ongoing support of the school.

Break and lunch routines

We will be spending time in tutor sessions, break and lunches between now and the half term break reiterating the routines and expectations for break and lunchtimes, including the areas that are open and the places that students can go for support or to speak to a member of staff. We encourage parents and carers to reiterate these messages at home, including the areas that are out of bounds at break and lunch, as shown on the images attached.

Safer Internet Day

Next Tuesday is Safer Internet Day. Students will be taking part next week in activities and discussions about relationships and respect online. Below is a link to a video about this year's national campaign.

We will be sharing conversation starters via the school's Twitter and Facebook accounts next week to encourage discussions to take place at home around relationships and gaming.

CSE session

All students will be having a session next week to raise awareness of Child Sexual Exploitation. We will be focusing on consent and healthy relationships.

During the sessions we will be using two videos - Alright Charlie for Year 7 and Sarah's Story for Years 8-11. Please click on the links to view the videos.

For more information, please contact Mrs Radd via cradd@manor.school

Letters were sent out for consent for second COVID and Year 9 teenager booster vaccinations via schoolcomms last week (they can also be downloaded via the buttons below). The nursing team will be in on Monday 21 February to administer them.
