Our Manor 21-25 February 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

Welcome back to the start of the new term. We hope that all of our students managed to get a restful break, despite some challenging weather conditions towards the end. You will be relieved to know that the school came out of the recent storms relatively unscathed.

This week, senior leaders had the opportunity to formally recognise those students who made significant achievements by demonstrating our REACH values to achieve the Gold award and/or School Colours in the last academic year. You will remember our REACH celebrations were cancelled in July 2021 due to COVID-19, so this chance to meet with each and every young person and congratulate them for their efforts and invite them to REACH Fest 2022 was important. Look our for more information in next week’s newsletter.

This term brings with it another action-packed calendar. We know that Year 11 and Year 13 will be in the final stages of preparations for examinations. The Consultation Evening this week was an important part of these final preparations. We will be shining a light on Year 9 this term with the guided choices process. We have an important information evening coming up on 8 March for families to look at GCSE and vocational courses. There are also a significant number of fixtures, events and visits taking place in a number of subject areas.

You will have received a letter today informing you of the latest guidance for schools in relation to COVID-19. Please can you ensure that you have taken the time to read the letter as it may well impact on you in the future. As always, if you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us in the usual manner, which is also described in the letter.

Enjoy the weekend!

The unfolding situation in Ukraine

We are sharing today's edition of BBC Newsround as it provides a summary of the unfolding situation in Ukraine. In the episode, De-Graft explains the history behind Ukraine and Russia. Ricky also answers questions on what is actually happening and what might happen. Their website also has tips about what to do if young people are feeling sad about what they've seen, heard or read in the news.

Punctuality

Encouraging regular school attendance and consistent punctuality is one of the most powerful ways we can prepare our students for success – both in school and in life. Punctuality is an important aspect of attendance here at Manor School.

Unforeseen issues with academy transport will not impact on a student’s late mark. Unless a student has an exceptional reason for being late, they will be given a late form to complete. Failure to complete the late form and hand it in to the school attendance officer on the same day will result in a 1-hour detention. This will be managed by the pastoral team.

  • 5 minutes late every day = 3 days of school lost a year
  • 10 minutes late every day = 6.5 days of school lost a year
  • 15 minutes late every day = 10 days of school lost a year
  • 20 minutes late every day = 13 days of school lost a year
  • 30 minutes late every day = 19 days of school lost a year

Consultation Evenings

Thank you to our Year 11 and Year 13 students and their parents/carers for their impressive turnout at our virtual Consultation Evening last night. The feedback received so far has been positive and we look forward to continuing to work on the processes around these as the system use is increased.

We are really keen to understand what is working well with these events and what could be further improved. Please fill out the feedback form to share your views.

The next virtual Consultation Evening takes place on Thursday 21 April for Year 8. A letter with full booking details will be sent via Schoolcomms in advance.
