Our Manor 14-18 March 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

Firstly, thank you for your incredible support last week for non-uniform day. We raised just over £1300 for the Ukrainian Refugee Appeal, alongside an incredible amount of donations. A big thank you to families for all your support. We would also like to give special thanks to Mrs Knighton for her coordination, effort and support.

Donated items boxed and ready for collection

On Monday we went to the Town Hall to celebrate Commonwealth Day alongside the Raunds Mayor and fellow Councillors. This was a great opportunity to be involved in the community.

There has been plenty of extra-curricular clubs and events taking place which is fantastic to see. Well done to the String Quartet, String Group and Little Big Band for their fantastic feedback from the mentors at the Regional Festival of Music. We also had the army come into school to work with our Public Services students in the sixth form as part of our focus to create work related opportunities for our young people. This week has also seen KS3 students participating in British Science Week by conducting an investigation into laundry detergents, as well as discovering career opportunities within the subject.

Next week there will be trial examinations for Years 11 and 13. We ask students to continue to revise and use the resources that are available to them.

NMPAT Big Sing

A large group of Manor students performed as part of the NMPAT Big Sing event held at the Derngate Theatre on Thursday 10 March. The following review comes from one of our Performing Arts student journalists.

Lots of schools joined Manor at the Big Sing to sing along to Disney songs. Manor really enjoyed themselves and would do it again if they could.

The audience happily listened to all the schools sing each Disney song with pride. Everyone did a fantastic job in singing and couldn't have done any better. They were all on time and no one was too fast or slow. Altogether, they sounded great!

All the songs were well known and suitable for all ages. Manor was one of the only secondary schools and were good role models to the primary schools.

The song people had the most fun singing was “Try Everything”. Everyone sung along and enjoyed jumping and dancing to the beat.

Overall, everyone enjoyed it. Manor were enthusiastic and ready to perform - when they did, it sounded brilliant with the other schools.

Theatre performance

On Friday 11 March, Onatti Theatre Group performed a show in French for our Year 7 students. It was a fantastic show where students practiced their French skills whilst learning some new vocabulary. Thank you to all students who were a credit to the school.

Army outreach visit

On Thursday 17 March, a team of British Army personnel visited Manor to work with KS5 BTEC Public/Uniformed Services students. The students participated in a number of activities that demonstrated the skills required to work in the armed forces.

PE notices

Students in Years 8, 10 and 11 need to check their class Teams folder for a survey link to the Sport England Active Lives survey. If they have been selected to complete this, could they please spare a few minutes to do it. Thank you.

As we start to think about the next programme for sport and exercise clubs both after school and at lunchtimes, we would like to open the conversation up to our students. If there is something they would specifically like to see as a club that we are able to realistically offer, they should either go to the PE office and share their ideas, or email their PE teacher. As you all know, we love running the clubs so if we can put things on that students are going to attend, then please do share and we will try to fit in what we can.
