Our Manor 12-16 December 2022

Welcome to this week's newsletter

Well, this was not the end of term that we expected or planned for. Lots of our festive plans and celebrations have once again been thwarted by our faulty gas supply. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank families, staff and students for the manner in which you have all responded to the challenges this week has thrown up, of which there have been many. Thank you to you all for being so accommodating at such short notice. The site team and external contractors are working hard to get the matter resolved and I remain hopeful that we will back up and running for the start of next term.

We are making a change to the listed training days in order to ensure we have sufficient capacity to get the repairs to the gas supply in school completed over the festive and new year period. The training day originally planned for Monday 5 June 2023 has now been moved to Wednesday 4 January 2023. Anyone who is impacted by the change from Monday 5 June 2023 should contact attendance@manor.school.

Finally, I would like to everyone a merry Christmas and a happy new year!

Take care and stay safe of the festive break.

COVID-19 seasonal booster

The NHS COVID-19 seasonal booster programme launched in September to ensure that people who are at higher risk from coronavirus can top up their protection ahead of the winter. Parents or carers of children who are at high risk from COVID-19 will have received a letter or text from the NHS/their GP inviting them to bring their child for their booster vaccination. If you have been contacted about your child being eligible for a seasonal COVID-19 booster, please do come forward to protect them.

For more information about the booster programme, please see the following letter from the NHS Northamptonshire Integrated Care Board.

Arbor homework assignments

Given some unusually high periods of staff absence in recent weeks, it is taking longer than we would like to show homework as 'submitted'. Staff who have been away from school, or those affected by covering for other staff are working as fast as possible to resolve these. Please bear with us while this is updated. In the coming terms we will be consulting more widely on what homework looks like across the school.

Mr Bateman

Christmas hampers

Representatives from Raunds Food Bank collected our Christmas hampers on Thursday 15 December. It was heartwarming to see that so many items had been donated for the appeal - thank you so much for your generosity.

Flu vaccinations

Flu vaccinations will take place for Years 7-9 on 16 January. If you have not already done so, please complete the consent form (sent by email) by 9am on 11 January.

KS3 Formative Assessments

As previously advised, our orange Formative Assessment sheets are one way in which we keep parents/carers informed about the progress that their children are making in the different areas of the curriculum, and also offer pointers for how they can move forward further in their learning. These are completed for Key Stage 3 students at various points in the year depending on the subject area. Please look out for the orange Formative Assessment sheets in students' exercise books in the subject areas below. These were scheduled for the Autumn term, although staff illness may mean that some of them have been delayed until after Christmas.

Between the start of term in January and the half term break in February, the following subject areas are scheduled to release orange Formative Assessment reports which again will be made available in students' exercise books and we would encourage all parents/carers to discuss these with their children and add a comment if they feel it is appropriate to do so.

CIRV

The Community Initiative to Reduce Violence (CIRV) is a multi-agency intervention programme designed to reduce gang violence and help those involved in gangs to live a life free of crime. They have produced the following newsletter aimed at young people who want help to move away from the violence, crime and misery associated with drugs, gangs and county lines.

They have also put together a leaflet of food banks and hot meals available for anyone who needs support this Christmas.

Cost of living support

North Northamptonshire Council have compiled information, support and advice for anyone struggling with the cost of living crisis. You can access it via the following link.
