Our Manor 30 January - 3 February 2023

Catering prices

It is always our intention to keep our prices as low as possible whilst maintaining our high product standards. However over recent years this has become increasingly challenging due to rises in the cost of energy and ingredients. The recent significant increases to the cost of energy and produce are now impossible to absorb and unfortunately, we have no alternative but to increase our prices.

Please see the letter below for our new prices.

Kickboxing champion

On Sunday 29 January, Year 11 student Holden W represented England in the WKO (World Kickboxing Organisation) English Open Championships. As well as winning the bronze medal in the Point Fighting category, Holden was also crowned champion in the Light Continuous (Tatami) category for his weight and age group. This is an outstanding accomplishment and we are very proud of him.

Sports leaders

On Monday 30 January we held our third primary cluster competition which was for Year 3/4 children and the activity was hockey. Stanwick Primary, Woodford Primary and St Peter's Primary all attended and despite the chilly afternoon had a lot of fun, with Stanwick coming out as the winners.

The afternoon was expertly led by our Manor students, many of whom had never led before but did a superb job, showing both maturity and enthusiasm. A public thank you and well done therefore goes to Madeleine H, Leah N, Chloe N, Owen S, Harry A, Florin S, Olivers Z, Molly T and Zoya K – you were all brilliant!

Word of the Week

Each week, the English department focuses on encouraging students to use one ambitious word – it is displayed in classrooms and discussed during teaching. It would be great if adults at home could try to encourage the use of this word too. You could try to fit into a conversation or even question your young person on the meaning. It will be fantastic for the students to see us all working together to help improve their language. Thank you for your support.

The Word of the Week for 30 Jan - 3 Feb is insidiously.

Year 9 immunisations

Year 9 students will have their teenage booster (tetanus, diphtheria, polio) and meningitis ACWY vaccine on Monday 20 February. Please see the email sent out to parents/carers on 18 January in order to consent to this.

Sporting honours board

It is that time of year again where we ask for any appropriate nominations for our sporting honours board located in the sports centre reception area.

If your child is regularly competing for a sports club outside of school which is county level or higher, please send their name, details of the sport, club and level they compete at to thustwait@manor.school. Please also share if they have recently won any major championships or trophies/medals in sporting competition.
