Key Stage 4 Subjects
The GCSE History course allows students to explore different periods of history and gain a deeper insight into the causes and consequences of a range of historical events. Students will be developing their historical knowledge by exploring topics thematically, over specific time periods and an in-depth study of a period of time.
The skills gained from history are sought after by employers and demonstrate an ability to, for example, synthesize large quantities of information, examine bias in sources and make links between different areas of history.
The course consists of three examinations, as detailed below:
- Paper 1: 30% – Crime and Punishment (thematic) and Whitechapel (historical environment)
- Paper 2: 40% – American West c1835- c1895. (period study) and Early Elizabethan England (in-depth British study)
- Paper 3: 30% – The USA 1954-75 (conflict at home and abroad).
