Key Stage 4 Subjects

Modern Foreign Languages

French, German and Spanish

Key Stage 4 Language courses at Manor School consist of AQA GCSE courses in French, German and Spanish. Each course follows a similar format and covers a range of topics within the following themes.

Theme 1: Identity and culture

  • Me, my family and friends
  • Technology in everyday life
  • Free-time activities
  • Customs and festivals in French-speaking countries/communities

Theme 2: Local, national, international and global areas of interest

  • Home, town, neighbourhood and region
  • Social issues
  • Global issues
  • Travel and tourism

Theme 3: Current and future study and employment

  • My studies
  • Life at school/college
  • Education post-16
  • Jobs, career choices and ambitions

GCSE French has a Foundation Tier (grades 1–5) and a Higher Tier (grades 4–9). Students must take all four question papers at the same tier. The papers are as follows:

  • Paper 1: Listening
  • Paper 2: Speaking
  • Paper 3: Reading
  • Paper 4: Writing
