Curriculum & policies

Our core curriculum at Manor School ensures students develop an awareness of how education, work and lifelong learning link together. Students will be required to be adaptable, agile and flexible in their employability skills and academic learning as they are unlikely to train for a job for life.

Our Work curriculum outlines four key attributes students need to develop for a successful transition from education to the world of work:

  1. Developing self-awareness of their strengths and interests, how they relate to others and how to improve themselves for the future
  2. Exploring opportunities of roles and occupations that exploit their interests, talents and skills to contribute positively to the economy
  3. Deciding and acting to develop the transferable skills in research, goal setting, evaluating options and reaching decisions
  4. Understanding transitions by becoming aware and being prepared for the timing, style and nature of transitions that affect them

Our core values of developing Resilience, Empathy, Aspiration, Curiosity and Humanity run through the heart of what we believe and aspire to be in everything that we do. These values remain the same for every member of the Manor community.

To achieve these goals, we expect all of our students to maintain a positive attitude to learning and have an awareness of the expectations and demands that employers have of their employees. Therefore, part of our programme will explore with all students how their attitude to learning has a direct correlation with their preparation for work.

Manor School works closely with South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership which provides a link to the national standards provided by the Careers & Enterprise Company to deliver ‘good career guidance’ using the eight Gatsby Benchmarks. This drives our CEIAG provision with reference to the Careers Development Institute Framework to structure the delivery of our WWW provision, careers programme and guidance which is outlined in our Careers & Work-Related Strategic Operational Plan.

In addition, we are constantly striving to improve our curriculum delivery and provision for all Manor School students. These aims are included in our Careers & Work-Related Learning Strategic Plan.
