Advice for parents/carers of KS4 students
Since September 2013 the government requires all young people to be in education, employment or training until they are (at least) 18 years old. Schools are expected to provide data for the local authority on the confirmed destinations of their students after the completion of GCSE examinations and the release of results. This is called the “September Guarantee”.
In 2023, the vast majority of Manor Year 11 students (93%) stayed in full-time education (sixth-form or college). In North Northamptonshire, this figure was 93.9%. A total of eight students went into an intermediate apprenticeship (4.7%) which was slightly above the North Northamptonshire figure of 2.9%. Whilst there are some apprenticeship opportunities at the age of 16 available, we are finding that employers are now more likely to recruit their new employees from local colleges of further education or school sixth forms at the age of 17 or 18 as they are more equipped with the developed employability skills, higher qualifications and an awareness of the working environment. Therefore, we encourage all of our students to explore the apprenticeship opportunities in the local economy but also make sure they secure a place at college to develop the skills, experience and confidence that employers look for.

Advice for parents/carers of KS5 students
Students entering Manor School’s Sixth Form are all provided with a structured programme to help them access the most appropriate apprenticeship, employment and university opportunities available. Students in Year 12 complete a post-18 intentions form towards the end of the Autumn term which informs us how to structure our IAG programme for the remainder of Year 12 and Year 13.
Students need support and encouragement to research and prepare their work and university applications by organising relevant work experience and volunteering opportunities to develop their employability skills. Guidance on writing UCAS personal statements will be provided and students will need to visit the universities they wish to apply to during the summer term of Year 12 and early part of the Autumn term in Year 13. Once students have applied by the early UCAS deadline of 16 October or the main deadline of 31 January of Year 13, applications for accommodation and student finance needs to be completed.
